Thermal Comfort Package – Step 3 – Windows

According to experts such as BZE, CSIRO and Melbourne University a comfortable and energy efficient home begins with ensuring your home is properly insulated and sealed against heat loss. This means you’ll be warmer in winter and cooler in summer without needing a lot of power to do so. Consequently we always recommend that you begin the process of making your home exceptional by addressing the thermal performance of your home.

Statistically a whopping 38.5% of our energy use goes into heating and cooling our homes (35% heating and 3.5% cooling). Consequently this offers one of the best opportunities for improving the performance of our homes.

Our Thermal Comfort Package has 3 steps that reduce your energy usage for heating and cooling through:

  1.  Insulation (wall, floor and ceiling)
  2.  Draught proofing, and
  3.  Window treatments

These 3 steps lead to an exceptionally comfortable home that needs very little energy to heat or cool it. They will:

Save you thousands of dollars on energy

Save you money on the size of heating and cooling appliances that you require

Save you on replacement costs as your heating and cooling systems will last longer due to being used less, and

If you are looking at solar power and batteries the Thermal Comfort Package will save you thousands on the size of the system you need!

Step 3. Window Treatments – Reduce the heat loss and gain in your home by 30% and 70% respectively with Window Treatments.

The problem with having the wrong windows in the wrong place:

  • Up to 40% of a home’s heating energy can be lost and up to 87% of its heat gained through windows.
  • A 1m2 window can allow up to 1000w of heat into your home every hour (the equivalent of a small heater running flat out).
  • Conversely an aluminium framed, single-glazed home can lose just as much heat as a large gas ducted heater can produce.
  • Glass and aluminium are very poor insulators, which we have all experienced when we have put our hand to them.
  • Our sense of comfort is not just determined by air temperature: the temperature of surrounding surfaces has a great impact on our comfort. Sitting next to a cold or hot window can be incredibly uncomfortable.
  • Windows should predominantly face north in order to take advantage of the sun’s ability to heat your home in winter but avoid summer heating.

Unfortunately most homes in Melbourne give no consideration to the placement of its windows.

The Solution: Premium Quality Window Treatments That Put You In Control

Wouldn’t it be great to be able to get all the benefits of the warming sun in winter but not swelter in the summer sun?

Wouldn’t it be great to let the heat in by day and keep it overnight?

By combining the benefits of secondary glazing (another layer of glass or acrylic that is added to your existing windows), external blinds and interior thermal blinds you can have superior comfort in your home. These effective solutions result in the following amazing benefits:
